I get on and off at the same place every day. I fix it so that I am standing to the side of the door so the others can get out. We also have the problems of idiots riding in the doorways and not bothering to move to get people off.

Did I tell you the time last year I was on the A train and the dude next to me was on his laptop watching porn?

Yep, fuck those people. They can’t be arsed to look up from their phones for 2 seconds.

I’ve seen that on an airplane as well. Ordinarily I don’t care what anyone else watches, but if it’s where kids can see you should stop.

Forgot - where do you live? I’m on the Upper West Side.

And usually they’re giant idiots, taking up far more real estate than they deserve. Unless the train is crowded they can get ticketed for that, as can the asshole with all that luggage on the seat. But I’ve never seen one written, only one for this guy that kept moving between cars. I’d like to see more enforcement.

Long Island, used to live in Manhattan (around Astor Place/Union Square) during undergrad and in grad school I lived in Park Slope.

So, like me, you’ve seen all the subway tomfuckery. People are horrible.

Exactly.

Someone threw a water bottle at me once... also seen the classic red stained seat several times.

Wait what if I wanna bomb a train? Or is that less efficient than just mashing the accelerator until a sharp corner comes up?

Same problem in Toronto... or jackasses who try to get on without letting people off.

More than once I had to loudly explain “PLEASE LET THE PEOPLE OFF BEFORE GETTING ON”... and then they back off.

I knew I was a New Yorker when the 3 train stopped at 34th and stayed there. Turns out a guy in the next car had died. They came to get him out, and I heard some guy lean out of a nearby car and yell: “C’mon already, I gotta get to work!”

New Yorkers are inherently selfish and borderline inhumane.

I like the subways where entrance and exit from the train are on different sides (I think Brussels was like this, though I feel like I’ve seen it elsewhere), since it solves this problem for the most part.

Of course NYC has a few stations that were designed for access from either side of the train (e.g. Columbus Circle), but apparently having the doors open on both sides caused technical challenges for the trains, so they just fenced off the extra platforms and don’t open the doors.

I mean really just weld a little ramp onto the tracks so the train derails.
